This past week we have been studying various aspect of
prayer. I am hoping you understand the study has not been exhaustive and
perhaps we will be having future articles about prayer. My intent in spending
the week looking at some aspects of prayer, is that each of us will continue to
search the scriptures and see that prayer is a vital part of Christian
discipline.
There are countless verses in the Bible relating to Bible
characters who were people of prayer. We have looked at the prayer lives of
people like Paul and David. I want to
direct you to another writing of Paul, this time in the book of Philippians
chapter 4 and verse 6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but
in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests
to God."
Learn this...when the Bible says to not be anxious about
anything, it means.....anything! And
when it says in everything, to prayerfully present your requests to God, it
means......everything! Good times or
bad, large or small decisions, happy times or sad times, talk to God about it.
He longs for you, his child, to keep in touch, to communicate, to come to him
with needs and express your thanks to him for who he is and all he does for you.
Think of someone, right now, that you know is in need of
God's touch in their lives. Take just a moment to mention them to God, and
express your desire for God to bring healing or forgiveness, or blessings to
their lives. When you have placed them in God's hands, for his will to be
accomplished, it becomes much easier for you to talk to them. Make sure they
know you and perhaps others are praying for them. You, yourself, will also be
receiving countless blessings from this act of prayer.
For your additional studies, I would suggest you find a good
book about the discipline of prayer.
Listing some that have been recommended, I further encourage you to read
these and any other books and see how they measure up to the scriptures.

This list is just a suggestion for
strengthening your prayer life. Above all, remain in the word of God and seek
his guidance as you grow and mature. Thanks to all of you for reading the blog
this week, and I really do appreciate hearing from you. I want to hear about
your stronger prayer life. God bless.
