For today and throughout the weekend, let us be mindful of
all those in the northeastern part of our country who have experienced loss of
property and suffered injury and even loss of life in the storm that hit their
location. Remember them all when you pray, and if given the chance, please let
them know they are on the hearts and minds of the rest of America.
Their world changed drastically with the onslaught of the
storm. Many homes remain flooded, others were destroyed by fires, personal
belongings including family mementos are lost forever. Neighbors are helping neighbors, police and
fire officials are doing a tremendous job is keeping the peace and helping to
maintain the safety of the citizens.
Every time these tragedies happen, I start wondering if
there is anything I can do. Of course
there are non-profit organizations that are collecting funds and supplies, and
we can donate to that. Above all, we can pray for those who are hurting and
facing the tedious task of rebuilding. And never forget words of encouragement
for those who have met such calamity. Remind them that God is still in control,
and our purpose in life reaches beyond this world and into God's eternal realms.
Share the scripture and point them to verses that have been help and
encouragement to you.
Remember, your
response to their need just might be the very thing that leads a movement of
demonstrating love and concern toward our fellow man, and I know it will go a
long way in helping our country continue to be a Christian nation.
Also, last weekend I encouraged you to be in prayer for our
nation as we select new leaders in our government. With the election coming up
Tuesday, please commit to the time and effort to talk to God about our nation.
Seek his guidance as you vote then support that vote by praying specifically
for those who are elected.
Have a great weekend. Devotionals will resume on
Monday. God bless.
