Check
out these verses of Scripture:
"Whoever is
slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he
who takes a city." Proverbs
16:32 (English Standard Version)
Whoever
covers an offense seeks love,
but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.
A rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding
than a hundred blows into a fool.
An evil man seeks only rebellion,
and a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
Let a man meet a she-bear robbed of her cubs
rather than a fool in his folly.
If anyone returns evil for good,
evil will not depart from his house.
The beginning of strife is like letting out water,
so quit before the quarrel breaks out. Proverbs 17:9-14 (English Standard Version)

Have
you noticed there are Christian associates who seem to never have a bad day, or
when they do, they are so conditioned to live in the positive, no one sees them
being negative? While we may be envious
of people like that, they are few and far between. For some of us, there is the
realization that we "lose our cool" too often. Then we end up saying
or doing something we regret. The final result is when we come to understand
our response may be offensive and mean toward people we are called to love.
Believe
it or not, this becomes a crossroad for us, a moment of making a decision to
change ourselves by the grace of God, by working to change our hateful
responses to bad situations and turning them into responses that demonstrate
our faith and devotion to God. I do not
see that as being easy for everyone, but I do see God's way as the best for us
to follow.
I
suggest for those who, like me, have this problem, seek God in prayer to be our
help in overcoming this and everything else about us that is evil. Read verses like the ones printed above that
will bring us to know the truth of "Whoever is slow to anger is better
than the mighty." The words
that really convince and convict us are in the more lengthy verses above. Look
closely at a few of those statements.
"Whoever
covers an offense seeks love."
"A
rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred
blows into a fool."
"
If anyone returns evil for good, evil will not depart from his house."
May
God bless us all as we search for ways to make right decisions and right
responses while seeking unity and love toward everyone. Remember who we live for, and remember who
lives inside us.
