Mary, Did you Know?

This song was beautifully performed by our praise team during communion last Sunday. Such powerful words and the encouragement for worship participants to assess their meanings brought me to the point of putting them in print for your closer examination.  There is something else you should know about the song.  It was written by Mark Lowry, well known Christian comedian, who has performed for years with the Gaithers.  Mark has made us laugh numerous times. The words he wrote into this song will bring you to tears.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?

The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you're holding is the Great, I Am.

Obviously there were some of those things that Mary could not have known.  She learned them as they happened.  All those things we CAN know because Holy Scripture records them for us. Our faith brings us to know the reality of them all.  They are given to you in this song today, with the hopes and prayers from Christians around the globe, that you will come to know and experience the love of Mary's Baby Boy.
