Keep your lives free from the love of money
and be content with what you have, because God has said,
“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”
never will I forsake you.”
6 So we say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not be
afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”
What can mere mortals do to me?”
7 Remember your leaders, who
spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and
imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and
forever. Hebrews 13:5-8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the
Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation
1:8
Did you catch the wording of the last
sentence in the verses from Hebrews? and the verse from
Revelation 1? Those verses can
bring the boggling of the mind when you attempt to understand them along with
all the various angles they propose.
There is going to be the need for us to
admit we know the story of the baby Jesus and his birth in the manger, while
understanding that Jesus was also present before the world and the entire
firmament were formed. Yes he was born a
baby in his entrance into his physical life, and yes, he was present with God
the Father and God the Holy Spirit in the process of creation. The entire plan of the gospel involves the
Son of God coming to the earth, as Paul told the Philippians, to take on the
form of a servant. In so doing, the
scripture lets us know when he emptied himself from the heavenly realm he took
on the things of the earthly realm. So,
the divine, became human and subject to all the frailties of every other human
being. Add to that the need for our
understanding as a human, Jesus also was still the Son of God, and capable of
performing the miracles he performed.
Now contrast this with the way our world is
heading today. We are a people of
"right now," while being a Christian sometimes calls on us to
"wait for the Lord." I walked
into the office of my phone provider last week to pay my bill, and right there
where my type of phone was displayed, the newest, fastest, and even the best
available, is now advertised in a "close-out sale." New technology is happening daily and
especially in the area of our electronics, but they don't stay new very long.
Other discoveries are made and then advertised, and we immediately want the
newest phone for today.
Housing renovations that are made today,
will be obsolete in five years, and we will be expected to renovate again, just
to get the latest version of everything.
And then we can bring up the auto industry. Those bandits will make
everything so appealing with new stuff from year to year, we will not be
surprised when our friends start talking about our outdated ride....before it's
out of warranty.
Given the chance to make a decision, I am
going to put my trust into the eternally proven, unchangeable God who promises
to be with me always. His workings go from the point of past, present and
future, who is, and was, and is to come.
Your decision may be different from mine, but when considering we have
an eternal appointment and destination, I'm sticking with the unchangeable, loving and forgiving God.
