I want it MY way...

If you missed yesterday's blog, scroll back and look it over, because today's has a similar message.  The continuation of subject matter is to answer a couple of responses to yesterday's blog.  One email is particular comes from someone outside the USA, and they think American Christians are guilty of making something out of nothing, referring to the decision of same-sex marriage by our Supreme Court.  While my intent is never to use this forum as an opportunity to create arguments, I do feel the need to say a few more things about the court decision and its impact on America.

Most of us are not accustomed to alternative arrangements in the subject of marriage.  We are familiar with and insistent upon the Bible's plan of "one man-one woman" when the two have learned each other and love each other and take the step toward marriage.  That has brought accusations of Christians being cemented in old-fashioned beliefs and practices.  Their answer is for us to enter the new age where people are encouraged to create their own plan in the marriage relationship.  This opens the door to the source of our troubles.  Ponder on this verse from the Living New Testament.

"The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?"  Jeremiah 17:9

If the human heart cannot be counted on to provide adequate answers, because of its deceit and wickedness, then we should be searching for something better.  That's why my encouragement for all of us, from yesterday's blog, is to make sure God is in control.  There is not a single human heart that can give better directions and instructions.  And now, it's time for every one of us to step out of the way and seek the heart of God for the solutions we need.

On the way home this evening I was listening to a talk radio program that has become a favorite.  One of the calls the host received was from a man who sounded like he had things together and was living a happy life.  He told the host his wife was from a different race, so his three children were mixed-race.  He has a daughter who is homosexual.  He sounded so content with his family and his life until he got to the real issue on his mind.   His complaint concerned immigration.  Wheels began to turn in my head, and sure enough, he was wanting a total relaxation of our immigration laws just long enough for everyone he wanted to come in.

Another discussion came from a second caller who wanted to rant about the Confederate flag issue.  A third caller thought all police and law enforcement people were corrupt.  Several other callers ran these and other issues by and before long it was evident our overall problem is simple to diagnose:  We have created a society of people, each demanding to have his or her own way!  And none of us will be happy if our way is not adopted by everyone else.  That kind of thinking and lifestyle can only lead to more and more problems.   Remember, it's the human heart that is deceitful and wicked.  Yes, yours and mine.  I repeat the closing line from a couple of paragraphs back.  Now it's time for every one of us to step out of the way and seek the heart of God for the solutions we need.  God bless.
