Carrying heavy loads will lead to a sore back, or knees and
ankles that wont function without pain. The right way and wrong way to carry
things can make all the difference. The verse under consideration today is
about carrying. It's about God who wants
to carry your burdens, your cares, and your problems.
1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand,
that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him
because he cares for you.
It seems so ridiculous but we are all guilty of it. Keeping our cares and worries to ourselves.
It's as if our trademark is STRESS! All
the while God pleads for us to cast our burdens on him. If you haven't learned it yet, learn it
now. He can handle them better than
you. The person whose life continues to
be controlled by stress and anxiety is announcing to the world and everyone in
it, that God cannot keep his promise.
What is it that bothers you, keeps you from being or giving
your all to God, or prevents you from letting him lift you up when you are
down? One of the remarkable attributes of God is his love for you. If your life
does not reflect that love in all you do, then you are a witness to your
family, friends, and others around you, that you do not trust in God's love for
his children.
We are not created to be a people of anxiety. Yes, bad things happen and we express cares
and concerns for our well being. It's only normal to be that way. The good news
is we do not have to stay that way.
Jesus still knows when the sparrow falls. He still has the hairs of your
head numbered. And he still wants us to know the truth of Matthew 6:31-33 "31 So do not worry, saying,
‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32
For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that
you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well."
The first step we take in a time of anxiety, or when burdens
weight us down, is a step in the direction of God. In humility we are confessing our inability
for answers, but his ability. He
welcomes our cares, our anxieties and our burdens. The scripture says it best,
"because he cares for you."
Beautiful. Thank you for reminding us we don't have to go it alone.
