The gospel is the good news
about Jesus. Paul instructed the Corinthian Christians of this good news they
heard, believed, and in which they stand. He reaffirms the importance of the
gospel in their lives. Just as we gather for communion on Sunday to remember
the sacrifice of Jesus, so Paul is establishing the importance of the gospel as
something Christians should remember. It is to our benefit to know the story of
our Lord because of the spiritual benefit to our lives, as well as knowing the
good news we share with others. Read closely....Paul says it's of first importance.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
1 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I
preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By
this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you.
Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first
importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the
Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day
according to the Scriptures.
Notice the progression of how
important the gospel is: 1.The gospel is heard, 2. The gospel is believed, 3.
It is in the gospel that you stand. Does this speak to you as growth and
maturity? Have you placed the gospel in your life as first priority?
Paul also says it is by this
gospel that we are saved. Research and recall the events Paul mentions and
identify how the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus relate to your
salvation. Is that a story you can share with others?
Make a list
today, of the people you know that need to hear the gospel message. If the
gospel is of first importance for you, help make it that important for someone
else.
