My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:1-6
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:1-6
I'm asking you to read the above verses a
couple of times, and pay close attention to Solomon's use of words like
"wisdom" and "understanding." Throw in the term "insight" and you
will have the beginning motivation to,
as verse 1 says, "accept my words and store up my commands within you."
We are serving the living God who doesn't
want us to aimlessly go through life without knowing his will and his
ways. If we are to know him as our
Heavenly Father, then our understanding of the things of God should be sought
as if we were searching for hidden treasure.
Immediately following the verses above, Proverbs 2:7-8 contain such
treasures. The graphic is given so you
can not only come to appreciate the Word of God and what it says, but that you
may search these truths, finding some treasures which are valuable to every
child of God.
Keep searching. God's
Word is filled with treasures. You might
start with Psalm 23, or John 3:16. Move
on to looking at 1 Corinthians 13, or Romans 8.
If there is a verse or verses which you do not understand, seek God's
wisdom and pray for understanding. We,
none of us, ever outgrow the need to search for the treasures of God.
