I keep hearing people say, "I've read the Bible to its
end, and WE WIN!" Now I find myself
wondering if we have really read or even studied the things we are told about
the end. I've done some reading in my
study time, looking specifically at some verses that descriptive of our
victory, yet something still bothers me.
How can people who read the end of the Bible and come away
with the truth of "we win," come to the assumption that we can just
roll with the flow, continue living in the roller-coaster style of having days
on a high and some days on a low, with our sights set on a victory that will
happen.....eventually?
In looking at some of these verses, let's follow what the
Bible says about us being victorious.
Start with Revelation 21:6-7, "He said to me: “It is
done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I
will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.
7 Those who are
overcomers will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my
children."
Look at the promises to those who overcome. We will be given water from the spring of the
water of life. Also, with our eternal
inheritance, God will be our God and we will be his children.
For a better understanding of how we are to overcome, look
at some other things from Revelation about overcomers. Back in chapter 12. John heard a great voice speaking from
heaven, “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the
authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our
God day and night, has been hurled down."
There is some good news. These words describe the coming of salvation
and the power of the kingdom and the authority of Jesus. Those are the very things we have been living
for. In addition, Satan, the accuser has
been hurled down. He cannot hurt us,
control us, or even accuse us anymore.
Look what comes next in chapter 12.
"They triumphed over him by the blood of
the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to
shrink from death."
These are the key to our end victory. It's where the announcement is actually made
that "we win!" And here is how
it's done.
1. By the blood of the lamb. The precious blood of Jesus as he gave his
life a ransom for many, is the cleansing agent that washes us as white as snow.
2. By the word of their testimony. We don't hear many testimonies these
days. Perhaps the telling of the story
of our journey with the Lord, will be the determining factor for others coming
to God through Jesus Christ.
3. They were not so wrapped up in this world
that they were afraid to die. These
overcomers knew their eternal home was with their Lord, and while this life
affords many blessings and times of happiness, none of it compares to the
eternity Jesus is preparing for us.
So, are you in the group of the overcomers? From what I read in my Bible, the overcomers are
those who win the victory over Satan, over death, and over anything and
everything that has ever come between us and God.
