The Ebola scare has a lot of people fearing its spread. True, only one case confirmed in the US, and
it's here in Texas. Just last month, the
Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated the possibility of 1.4 million
people in the world being infected by January, 2015. Their next published estimate was that
700,000 of those could die.
As if that isn't enough, daily situations in the Middle East
indicate the need for us to protect ourselves at home and abroad, from
terrorists who wish to kill us all.
While I refuse to bring the clash of political viewpoints into this blog, I am on the side
that wishes to live and help bring our country to a place of security and
stability again.
Daily news reports seem to grow in the number of senseless
murders, kidnappings, rapes, and other violent crimes. Even the smaller communities are no longer
immune to acts of violence. The answer
to any disagreement we have with someone seems to be an answer of violent
harm. I never thought I would see it
happen, but people are literally losing their heads over religious differences.
I realize most of the readers of this blog are Christian, so
my question for each of you is this.
"How are we, as the people of God, supposed to act, or react, in
situations like these?" Do we sit
idly by and just await the end? Is there
something we could or should be doing to be able to face these perilous times?
Let me be the first to tell you, I have no answers to all
the bad things that are happening, and may be happening to you. If I did come up with an answer, we must all
face the fact that there would be a group somewhere that wouldn't agree, and
would make me their enemy. Another area
where you might disagree is my suggestion that we need to find our answers in
God and in His Word, and I confess to you that is the only direction I can
suggest for answers to our dilemma.
Read these verses:
"And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord
your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today,
the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations
of the earth." Deuteronomy 28
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the
peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and
your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians
4
"Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will
sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved." Psalm 55
Above all, pray. Pray
for God's direction as you continue your Christian journey. Pray for your community and your
country. Pray for your leaders. Pray for your family. Pray for your employer and fellow
employees. Pray for those who are
hurting.
Our times demand that we lean on God more than ever
before. That comes from surrendering our
will to the will of God. May He bless
our communities and our nation.
