The Supporting Structure

The old train trestle is abandoned.  The last train to attempt crossing the gorge on this trestle was the first train that didn't make it across. The lumber was old and weathered. The supporting beams had given way to age and the elements of nature. What at one time had been a dependable bridge, allowing the transport of cargo and passengers, now only stands as a reminder of its past accomplishments.  Adding insult to the dilapidated structure is the demolition and removal of the trestle bridge is cost prohibitive to the railroad.

Looking at the picture, I see there are still numerous parts that appear to be in good shape, at least they seem to be in place and providing support.  I suppose all it took was one weak spot, and the bridge became useless.........abandoned.

That trestle is like your life and mine.  Where we were once strong, able to be supportive, we have stumbled and become weak.  Our weakness may be the cause for the structures which count on us to now be aware of our inability or unwillingness to carry the load.

This weekend, think and meditate on your place in the body of Christ. Daily be aware of Ephesians 4:15-16, "speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.  From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."
