5 Things

We have seen some of the writings of  Robert Schnase  in our earlier blogs.  He is the one whose book, "Five Practices of the Fruitful Congregations" looks deeply into the life of our churches with a keen eye and outstanding information for churches that want to be totally dedicated to producing fruit for the Lord.

In the earlier blog, my intention was to make one writing which mentioned the book and the author, and give a couple of examples of the ways we might grow in our church's work of fulfilling the task of reaching more people with the gospel.  Some of our readers in locations half way around the world have asked me to give them more information on the book.   Today I want to share a little more, by giving some chapter topics, and maybe a few quotes, while hoping we can all learn something that will help us.

Schnase mentions his five practices like this:

1. Radical Hospitality
2. Passionate Worship
3. Intentional Faith
4. Risk-Raking Mission and Service
5. Extravagant Generosity

The author says these are the primary things people are searching for, and the fruitful church will see these as fundamental practices.  They are the really important things which will demonstrate the church's health and vitality.

Do you think the five things compose a complete list?  In your church, is the focus on more or less than the five practices?

Perhaps you can think of some additional areas which, for your church, are more pressing for a while, and that's fine.  But I am leaning more and more in the direction of believing those five practices will bring a tremendous positive influence to any church.

I encourage you to think and pray about your personal involvement in the work of your church, in the light of the fruit-bearing that is being accomplished.  In addition, this is one of those things which I solicit your comments and your insight of how these and other things have been successful in your home church.

God Bless!
